世界顶级科研机构NIH鼎力支持针灸治癌 向全球开放针灸研究经费
2017年11月，美国国立卫生研究院（NIH）下属的国立癌症研究院(NCI)发表了一篇关于针灸的重要文章，就针灸治疗癌症达成了原则共识，支持针灸治疗癌症的相关研究！我们知道，美国国立卫生研究院(the National Institutes of Health，NIH)位于美国马里兰州贝塞斯达（Bethesda），是美国最高水平的医学与行为学研究机构（大致相当于中国的自然基金委，负责国家级的医学研究项目），初创于1887年，当然也是世界最高水平的研究机构之一。
NIH拥有27个研究院所及研究中心，其中与针灸密切相关的有国立癌症研究院（National Cancer Institute，NCI，成立于1937年），国立补充与整合医学中心 (National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health，NCCIH,成立于1993年）。NCI是专门研究癌症治疗的机构，其下设了肿瘤替代医学中心（OCCAOM），针灸治疗癌症的研究经费占OCCAOM资助项目的60%。NCCIH是专门研究以中医针灸为主的补充与整合医学的机构。
据樊蓥博士介绍，NCI下设的OCCAOM的针灸研究经费，比NCCIH的针灸研究经费都要多，可见NCI在NIH里的重要性，以及他们对于针灸的重视程度。
为什么说这篇文章非常重要？
先让我们了解一下这篇文章形成的背景。
2016年6月16-17日，美国国立癌症研究院（NCI）举办了“针灸用于癌症症状管理“（Acupunctrue for Cancer Symptom Management）的会议，邀请了19名美国、欧洲及中国的顶级科学家和学者参加。
让我们看一下这19位学者的组成。17位美国学者，其中有哈佛大学做针灸基础的Helene M. Langevin，做安慰剂研究的Ted J. Kaptchuk，做针灸肿瘤临床的Weidong Lu（陆卫东），做功能影像学的Vitaly Napadow，全美中医药学会(ATCMA )的Arthur Yin Fan(樊蓥)，美国著名肿瘤医院MSK、MDAnderson的Andrew J. Vickers、Jun J. Mao（毛俊）、Ting Bao（包博士）、Xin Shelley Wang(王博士)等；一位德国学者Claudia M. Witt，就是曾经创造过德国最大规模针灸临床试验记录的创造者；一位中国香港的学者Lixing Lao（劳力行）。以上19人虽然没有完全列出，但都是各领域的顶尖学者。（详细作者名单请看文后的附录）
这19人中包括7位华人学者，可见华人在国际前沿的针灸研究领域也渐渐拥有了话语权。
以上19人中没有一位中国大陆学者，针灸发源地的中国在国际前沿的针灸研究领域尚需努力。
这个会议由NCI的替代医学办公室主管针灸的Farah Zia医生和Oluwadamilola Olaku医生等主持召开。在这个会议上，回顾了NCI的关于针灸的资金项目，分析癌症病人的需求，回顾了安全问题以及评价了当前科学证据及针灸在癌症治疗方面的科研空白。
参会者陈述和讨论了基本的针灸作用机制，对于特定症状有效的临床证据，以及方法学上面的挑战。比如安慰剂效用、新的生物统计方法、病人陈述效果及比较效用研究。
NCI的这篇文章，是上述会议的总结，经过1年多的撰写才正式发表。一方面是总结针灸在癌症治疗方面的成果，识别关键科学空白；另一方面为继续推动针灸治疗癌症的研究指明了方向。
值得注意的是，这篇文章引用了一个词汇，integrative oncology（整合肿瘤学），把包括针灸、中药在内的整合医学运用到癌症治疗中去，这就是未来癌症研究的方向所在。
这篇文章有什么重大意义？
这虽然只是一篇文章，但背后是美国顶级科研机构NIH对于针灸的认可和推动！这同时也是一个指南，指导美国医院的肿瘤科设立针灸治疗癌症的科研项目，并同时将针灸应用于癌症治疗的临床中去。
可以预见的是，在NCI强大科研经费的推动下，针灸治疗癌症的相关研究一定会遍地开花，结出丰硕果实！
NIH的科研经费是向全世界开放的，也就意味着，全球各国针灸领域、肿瘤领域的顶尖人才都会加入到这场科研中去。这对整个针灸行业的发展是非常有利的。
